It's been quiet here but we're staying busy.  Issue #5 will be out this summer and layout is almost complete for the book length anthology.  We are so excited to share this new work!

When Language Runs Dry #2 and #3 reviewed in Zine World

when language runs dry #2: A collection of essays and comics by people living with chronic pain and illness: Crohn’s, back trouble, depression, panic disorder. Emphasis on coping strategies—helpful to know even if you’re not currently in pain. (There’s an essay on how to react helpfully and supportively to people with chronic disorders.) Contains a list of books and other resources. –MC

when language runs dry #3: This is a comp zine for people with chronic pain and their allies. I loved this; it is easy to read, has great pictures/illustrations, and the stories from folks living with pain are eye-opening. Stories range from an account of a person who was hit by a car while riding her bike to work and now lives with a brain injury; an entry that focuses on having a disability that isn’t visible and how others react to the disability; thoughts on saying no to outings with friends due to fear of aggravating existing pain, etc. This is packed with great information and includes a reading list (books, blogs, media). Highly recommended. –Stephanie K.

Barnard College Disabiity Zine Exhibit

We were excited to hear today that When Language Runs Dry #2 has been included in an exhibit at Barnard Zine Library: 

Disability Zine Exhibit.  Curated by Lenny Sydney Adler for the Barnard Library Zine Collection

This exhibit, installed on the occasion of the Barnard Center for Research on Women Scholar & Feminist Conference, "Movements: Politics, Performance and Disability," seeks to shed light on the voices of women living and working with disabilities-telling their stories via the D.I.Y. mythos of the personal, self-published zine. Featuring a range of pieces published within the past dozen or so years, each edition contextualizes the writer's view as related to the individual's experience in punk rock, feminism, queer culture, and film. Community care, motherhood, and the underpinnings of the medical industry are discussed. Women of color, size, and different economic backgrounds are represented. This exhibit is made up of zines from the Barnard Library Zine Collection archival and circulating collections.

When Language Runs Dry #2: The second issue of this edited collection includes 4 new essays, a beautiful 16 page comic, a workshop piece on communication and support, contributor bios and reading/resource list. Themes include self acceptance, and sustaining self-care, support, and motivation over the long term.
